Below you can find some frequently asked questions concerning the kittens
I receive this question very often and there is some times a wrong impression in peoples mind that female cats are more affectionate or have a softer temperament, compared to male cats. The truth is that the sex of the cat you will choose as your companion should not matter. Both male and female Ragdolls make equally fine companions. Nevertheless, every cat male or female develops its own character. Out of my personal experience I would dare to say that male Ragdolls are even slightly more affectionate compared to females.
Cats can become bored and lonely if they spend many hours by themselves while you are at work. One way to avoid this problem would be to get two kittens at the same time and about the same age so that they can interact and keep each other company. It is also possible to buy a second kitten in the near future if you can not buy two kittens at the same moment. If buying two kittens at once is a bit difficult for your budget, you can also purchase a Ragdoll and adopt a second mixed-breed kitten from an animal shelter as it would also be excellent companion for your Ragdoll. People spending many hours at home, have children, other cats, dogs etc and have in general enough time to dedicate to their Ragdoll do not necessarily need to think of a companion even though it will never harm them.
You are more than welcome to visit us. However, visits are not allowed until the kittens are 6-8 weeks old as their immune system is not fully developed yet and they are susceptible to diseases at their young age. After this time period, you are welcome to come and see the kittens so that you can see where they grow up, to see their personalities, choose which one you best connect with etc. We would appreciate it if you would not come in touch with other cats (stray or not) on the day you will visit us, as other cats might have a contagious infection. Feel free to contact us in order to make an appointment. We would be more than happy to offer you a cup of coffee and give you advice about Ragdolls and cats in general.
I often receive this question especially by people in Cyprus as they are very impatient and want to have a kitten when it is around 8 weeks old. I fully understand the excitement and I am happy you are looking forward welcoming your kitten but it is very important to think what is in the benefit of the kittens. Kittens are ready to go to their new home about the age of 12-14 weeks, depending on their health and size. It is very important that the kittens stay with their mother until this age so that they receive adequate nutrients from the mother's milk which will help them to promote a healthy, strong immune system. In addition to this it is also very important to remain with the mother and siblings as long as possible in order to develop proper socialization skills! Hence, 12 weeks is the minimum age at which the kittens are allowed to go to their new homes and we do not make any exceptions to this rule and we thank you in advance for your understanding. I am sure you will respect this rule as you also want the best for your Ragdoll.
Responsible breeders put a lot of time, effort and money in order to take good care of their Ragdolls and raise the kittens properly. Breeding cats is not a profitable business but an expensive hobby. When you purchase a kitten, part of what you are paying for is the quality of a pure bloodline, the veterinary visits, the vaccinations, the cost of registration papers, health certificates, quality food, keeping up the cattery and all the other expenses that help having healthy kittens such us the medical costs for testing the parents for genetic diseases, DNA test etc. Some breeders also include the expenses for neutering your kitten or they neuter the kittens before they go to their new homes. All these costs plus the unexpected costs are a respectable amount on a yearly basis. Nevertheless, when buying a kitten from an ethical breeder you can be confident that all the necessary steps have been taken to breed correctly and that the kitten has grown up in a healthy environment which focuses on the well being of the cat. It might be tempting to buy a kitten without pedigree or from an unknown destination at a lower price but remember...a cheap buy is an expensive buy in the long run, both financially as emotionally. "Don't let the price of a Ragdoll kitten hold you back from getting one. Any present Ragdoll owner will attest to you that they are worth their weight in gold!" Kittens for breeding are only sold to registered breeders who give attention to every cat individually, do not keep their cats in cages and follow the rules of the cat clubs. In case there is a kitten with breeding quality and you are interested, you can get in touch with us and we will take it from there. In case you are planning to start a new cattery...well...we have all been there and I know it is not easy to find a breeder who will trust you when making your first steps and this is understandable as we can not easily trust our cats to just anybody. Nevertheless, if you are serious about it and want to breed in a responsible way according to the rules of the cat clubs we can talk about it once you register your cattery. We do not sell cats for breeding in Cyprus. All kittens sold in Cyprus are sold as pets and are neutered.
Several arrangements could be arranged. As my family and I are often travelling to Belgium, we can easily transfer our kittens to Belgium for a low fee or even for free some times (depending on the airline). If you are from a neighbouring country it might be easier this way instead of having a kitten shipped. Even though I prefer bringing the kittens myself, it would be possible to ship kittens by an airline to other countries. The cost of this service depends from the country and the airline. In addition to this you will have to cover the costs of an airline-approved pet carrier (which you'll be able to keep).
